The Holidays and family

Connie’s mother Bertha went home to Pennsylvania this past Sunday after having visited with us for 3 weeks. Connie’s cousin Mili already had left the previous Sunday morning after spending 2 weeks with us as well. I must say that I was sad to see them go. John has dearly loved all of the time he has spent with them and has shown so much growth (not physical mind you) and learned so much while they were with us. He’s saying a ton of new words and has had the best time with them. While here they visited the zoo, the aquarium, the Tulsa Air and Space Museum, several parks, stores and so forth. John has thrived on all of the extra attention and has even shown some jealousy whenever Bertha gets around other babies. He will miss them both incredibly. Unfortunately for us our house is no longer full. While they were here there were plenty of things going on in the house to keep John occupied. Now he’ll have to get used to just having Mom and Dad around.

Last Christmas John was too young to understand what was going on but this year he started to grasp how to unwrap presents (quickly) and kept going from toy to toy as he was easily distracted. For New Years Day he went to a party and enjoyed the music so much he wanted us all to dance with him. That’s another thing about him, his love of music and dancing is getting stronger. He enjoys many different kinds of music, from traditional Peruvian folk music to Los Lobos to D.A.D. to Alejandro Escovedo to The Police to Los Fabulocos to so much more. The boy is crazy for it and is learning new dance moves all the time. Very soon we are going to have to visit my family so that they can see this wonderful child again. Of course then next year we have to find a way to return to Peru so that the rest of Connie’s family can see John as well.

Yes now we have to return to our old way of doing things. I must admit I’ve gotten spoiled during these holidays. Not only has Bertha cooked and washed dishes for us so that we didn’t have that worry but she and Mili took care of John which allowed me a little more sleep and the chance to take a deep breath. Now it’s back to less sleep and adjusting myself to John’s patterns. My brief respite is over however I am grateful for the time we had and can only pray for more in the future. John seems to thrive with more people around and who could blame him? Personally I want to thank Bertha and Mili for all that they have done for us, they lightened out load just by being here and we are grateful for that.
